There’s a quiet whisper inside you.
Sometimes it shows up in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep, sometimes when you’re washing dishes, sometimes when you catch your reflection and barely recognize the woman looking back. It’s the whisper that asks:
Who am I? What do I really want? What’s next for me?

For many midlife women, this whisper gets buried under years of taking care of everyone else; children, partners, parents, work. You’ve poured yourself into everything and everyone, only to find yourself lost in a life that looks fine on the outside but feels disconnected, empty, or not fully yours.
And here’s the truth: you don’t have to stay there.
The number one secret to living your truth, the life you actually want, is knowing and defining your values.
Values Are Your Center
Your values are not abstract words on a pretty graphic. They’re not what you think you should care about.
Your values are your deep beliefs about what is most meaningful to you and align with who you are. Your values are unique to you, you define your values according to what they mean to you.
Values are the foundation of who you are and the compass for every choice you make.
When you’re disconnected from your values, life feels heavy, confusing, and unfulfilling. You may catch yourself going in circles, second-guessing every decision, or living on autopilot.
But when you’re connected to your values, everything shifts. They become your center, your truth. As Stephen Covey said:
“Values are the source of our passions in life, and they help us determine where we focus our energies.”
Living your values isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment. It’s about waking up in the morning knowing you are living a life that is yours, not a life scripted by others’ expectations.
Discover Your Values
Here’s where many women get stuck. We ask, “But how do I know what my values are?”
Here are three ways to discover your values:
- Look at your joy.
Think about moments when you felt most alive, fulfilled, and at peace. What were you doing? Who were you with? Those moments reveal what you truly value. - Notice your pain.
Frustration and anger are powerful teachers. When something bothers you deeply, it often points to a value not being honored. For example, if broken promises cut you to the core, you may hold honesty or integrity as a high value. - Ask yourself powerful questions.
- What matters more to me than anything else?
- If I had one year left to live, how would I spend my time?
- What do I want my children or loved ones to remember me for?
