How to Hear Your Inner Wisdom When Life Is Too Busy

Someone recently asked me a question that stopped me mid-thought: What have you been too busy to hear lately?

I felt it land in my body before I had an answer. Maybe you did too.

The Quiet Nudge You Already Know

Deep down, you know something. A desire, a dream, a decision waiting for you. Your inner wisdom has been tapping you on the shoulder, gently and patiently, asking you to pay closer attention.

And you may have been too busy to turn around.

When we lose connection with ourselves, it rarely looks dramatic. It looks like a full calendar, a long list, and days that move so quickly there is no room to hear what we want to create.

When Full Days Drown Out Inner Wisdom

I understand this one personally. Some days I move through my list so quickly that I am not connected to the choices I am making. I am checking boxes, answering messages, and moving to the next thing.

Nothing is wrong with a full life. But when every moment is filled, the quiet voice inside has nowhere to land.

Awareness is the first return to ourselves. It is the moment you notice, “I have been moving, but have I been listening?”

My Own Nudge

Here is what I have been hearing lately.

I am facing a choice about how I want my professional life to move forward. It has been nudging me for a while, and I know I need to explore it before the time comes to decide.

So I have been asking myself honest questions:

  • What does moving forward actually look like to me?
  • What is most important to me right now?
  • What do I want to create?
  • If I choose this path, am I living my truth? What about that path? Or any number of other options?

I do not have every answer yet, and I am learning that is okay. The exploring is part of the wisdom.

Even With Morning Journaling, I Miss It

Here is the part I want to be honest about.

I journal and connect to my inner being almost every morning. It grounds me. And still, there are moments when I face a choice and make one that is not fully aligned with me.

Why? Because I had not spent time exploring what I truly wanted in that particular moment, that particular decision, that particular season of life.

Connection in our quiet morning time is beautiful and necessary. But your truth is not only found in the stillness of sunrise. It is created in the middle of your day, in the middle of the choosing.

A Gentle Pause Between Choices

What if awareness did not stay in your journal and instead walked with you through the day?

Here are a few gentle ways to invite that:

  • Pause before you say yes. Take one slow breath and notice what your body says first.
  • Ask the alignment question. Is this aligned with who I am becoming and what I want to create?
  • Listen for the quiet nudge. It is often softer than the loud list in your mind, so give it space.

None of these asks you to be perfect. They invite presence, one choice at a time.

Reflection Prompts for You

Grab your journal or sit with these in a quiet moment:

  • What have I been too busy to hear lately?
  • What do I know deep down that I have not been paying attention to?
  • Where in my life is my inner wisdom gently nudging me?
  • What choice is coming that deserves my full presence?
  • What would living my truth look like in this decision?

Let your answers be messy and unfinished. You are always becoming, and you are always creating. Today you are more than you were yesterday, and tomorrow you are more than you are today.

If you would like support exploring these questions, my free WILD! Wisdom and Awareness Workbook is an invitation to slow down and listen to what you already know.

I want you to live your truth.

So I will ask you once more, with tenderness: What have you been too busy to hear lately?
